Carpet stain removal in Hong Kong
The sooner we see a stain, the better the odds. Send us a photo, tell us what caused it and what's been used on it, and we'll tell you what we think is possible.
A stain isn't simply dirt. It's a particular substance reacting with a particular fibre, so what works on coffee on nylon might set a different mark on wool. That's why we'd like to know what it is before treating it.
Stains we're often asked about
| Stain | What it usually involves |
|---|---|
| Coffee and tea | Tannin stains, usually good odds if the mark is fresh |
| Red wine | Fresh is best; older marks may leave a shadow |
| Food and grease | Oily soil that needs a different treatment from water-based spills |
| Pet urine | Can reach the underlay and leave an odour even after the mark is gone |
| Blood | Cold water only, as heat can set it |
| Ink and dye | Hard to remove, depends heavily on the type |
| Wax and gum | Mostly a physical removal job |
| Unknown marks | We test carefully and start gently |

What gives the best chance
Speed. Fresh stains haven't had time to bond with the fibre.
Blotting, not rubbing. Rubbing pushes the stain deeper and can fray the pile.
Knowing what it is. The right treatment depends on the cause.
No harsh chemicals. Bleach and strong household products can strip colour permanently, and may react with whatever we'd need to use.
How we treat stains
We identify the stain and fibre, test our treatment in a hidden spot where needed, apply a suitable product, give it time to work, and rinse or extract it. Often the stain can't be properly removed on its own, so we include a general clean. This also prevents you from ending up with a clean patch in a dull carpet.
Odours
Smells often come from what you can't see. Pet urine can reach the backing, underlay, or even the floor. A surface deodoriser only hides it for a while. Dealing with it means reaching the source, and in serious cases, it may mean replacing the underlay. We'll discuss this with you once we've seen the carpet.
What we can't remove
We'll be direct about this:
- Bleach marks and sun fading are colour loss, not stains. Nothing is there to remove.
- Burns and melted fibres are physical damage.
- Dye transfer from furniture or wet fabric may be permanent.
- Old, set-in stains, especially those treated repeatedly with household products, may only lighten.
Rugs and sofas
Stains on rugs and sofas need particular care because of their dyes and fabrics. Please don't experiment on a valuable rug. Send a photo first.
What to send us
A close-up and a wider photo, what caused the stain and when, and anything that's been used on it already.
Frequently asked questions
Can every stain be removed?
No. Fresh, water-based spills usually respond best. Old stains, bleach marks, dye transfer and burns are much harder, and some are permanent. We will give you an honest view before you book.
Why did the stain come back after I cleaned it?
It's called wicking. Residue deep in the pile or backing rises to the surface as the carpet dries. It's a common reason a spot seems to reappear, and it usually needs a proper extraction to remove.
Should I try to clean it before you come?
Blot with a clean, white cloth and cold water if it is fresh. Avoid bleach, strong chemicals and hard rubbing, which can make the stain permanent. Tell us what you have used, as it affects what we can use safely.
Can you remove old pet urine smell?
Often we can improve it a lot. If urine has soaked into the underlay or subfloor, cleaning the carpet alone may not fully remove the smell, and we will tell you that.
