Our carpet cleaning process

From your first photo to a dry carpet, this is what to expect from us and what we'll ask of you.

Before the visit

1. You send us the details

A few photos and rough measurements are usually enough. Tell us about any stains, what has been used on them already, and whether there's a lift in your building. See what to send for a quote.

2. We reply with a plan and a price

We'll tell you what we suggest, what we think is achievable, and what it should cost. If photos can't tell us enough, we'll say so.

On the day

3. Inspecting the carpet

Before anything gets wet, we look at the fibre, the backing and the dyes, test for colour stability where needed, and note existing damage. If we spot something that changes the plan, we'll talk to you before continuing.

4. Dry vacuuming

This is the step that cheap cleans tend to skip. Most of the soil in a carpet is dry grit, which is far easier to remove while it's dry. Add water first, and it turns to mud at the base of the pile.

5. Dust removal

Fine dust gets ground deep into the pile. Removing it matters for how the carpet looks and feels, and it matters to anyone in the household who's affected by dust.

6. Treating stains

Spots and problem areas get specific treatment for what caused them. That's why it helps to tell us what the stain is and what you've already tried. See carpet stain removal.

7. Hot water extraction

Hot water and a suitable cleaning solution are put into the pile and immediately drawn back out, carrying loosened dirt with them. This is what most people call steam cleaning. On delicate fibres, we adjust the approach or use a different one.

8. Rinsing

Cleaning agents left behind leave carpet sticky, and sticky fibres collect dirt faster. Rinsing clears out what's left so that the carpet stays clean for longer.

After we finish

9. Drying

We remove as much water as we can, then advise you on the best way to dry the carpet in your space. In Hong Kong, the weather makes a real difference: windows may help on a dry autumn day, but on a damp spring day, closed windows with air-conditioning or a dehumidifier generally work better.

10. Looking after it

We'll walk through the result with you and point out anything that didn't fully improve. Then keep furniture off the carpet until it's fully dry, and put plastic or foil under the legs for a while, so that wood stains and rust can't transfer to the pile.

Frequently asked questions

How should I prepare for the cleaning?

Vacuuming isn't needed because we will do it. Please clear small items and anything fragile, and let your building know if that is required. Tell us in advance about any heavy furniture and any stains you have already treated.

Do I need to be there?

Someone should be there at the start so we can agree the work, and at the end to check it. For offices, a contact person or building management arrangement usually works.

When can I walk on the carpet again?

It's usually fine to walk on it carefully with clean socks soon after, but outdoor shoes should wait until it has dried, since a damp carpet picks up dirt quickly. Wait until it is completely dry before putting furniture back.
